Mountain Skills 2
Course Summary
Our Mountain Skills 2 courses are run over two consecutive days, usually at weekends.
It includes a night navigation exercise on the first evening, of approx. 3 hours duration.
This course is designed to impart the necessary skills in navigation (in rain, mist or darkness) and knowledge of hazards, equipment and movement in steep ground so that an individual may be confident and in a position to safely pursue hill-walking as a hobby. It also provides the foundation training for those who wish to progress on to the national and internationally recognized leadership qualifications.
COURSE CONTENT
MS 1 navigation consolidation, compass work, route planning, navigation techniques, feature recognition, emergency procedures, night navigation, mountain rescue, mountain hypothermia, steep/broken ground movement skills.

Student: Instructor ratios 6:1
Maps and compasses are provided for this course if required.

In order to start your training, you must register first. Whilst award registration requires you to become a Mountaineering Ireland member, scheme registration does not. However, candidates can avail of the same discount membership rate of €35 at the time of registration. This option will present during the registration process.
